Certifications Required For Refrigerants

The certification required to handle refrigerants for farm equipment A/C purposes is required by the federal EPA, not individual states. The regulatory framework is found under Section 609 of the Clean Air Act. That section requires technicians take a one-time test to obtain a lifetime certification. The EPA has a list of approved technician training and certification programs.
